Description:
The ball joint ensures the connection from the wheel carrier to the wishbone and transfers the wheel loads to the cross member.
In many cases, the rubber sleeve of the ball joint fails due to dynamic loading and embrittlement of the material, allowing dirt and water to enter the ball joint. Therefore, ball joints should be regularly inspected for play in the joint. The ball joints should always be changed axle by axle.
You should definitely not continue driving with a defective ball joint, as in the worst case scenario the ball head can come loose from the joint socket. As a result, the wheel's guidance is no longer guaranteed and it can swing unpredictably.
