Instrument cluster gear for BMW E23 7 Series VDO cockpit repair 20x23
excellent workmanship quality
Description: If the odometer/trip meter has failed on your vehicle, this gear is usually the cause. The original beige-brown gears crumble over the years and need to be replaced.
Variants: We can say with great certainty, but not with 100% certainty, which model has which gear size. Too many influencing factors come into play here (engine type/gearbox type/year of manufacture/model). However, the following data reliably helps to determine the right gear: Variants of this double gear for VDO speedometers: 20x21 (17.60mm/9.00mm) Number of teeth on the opposite partner gear: 49 teeth 20x22 (17.60mm/9.40mm) Number of teeth of the opposite partner gear: 48 teeth 20x23 (17.60mm/9.65mm) Number of teeth of the opposite partner gear: 47 teeth 20x29 (17.60mm/12.05mm) Number of teeth of the opposite partner gear: 41 teeth 20x30 (17.60mm/12.55mm) Number of teeth of the opposite partner gear: 40 teeth 20x32 (17.60mm/13.40mm) Number of teeth of the opposite partner gear: 38 teeth If in doubt, simply count the teeth of the gear in which the smaller gear engages.

Advantages: Buying a used speedometer saves you from having to repair it initially, but carries the risk that the gear will break in the near future. Storage times and cold temperatures in particular cause additional damage to the gears. Due to incorrect material choice by VDO, all original gears of this type will break over time! If you have dismantled the speedometer, we also recommend replacing the light bulbs. These noticeably lose performance over the years.
Quality: Our gears are elaborately and faithfully manufactured using injection molding and are not self-made 3D printed products. We work with a manufacturer that specializes in the production of plastic gears and is the global market leader with its repair solutions. The so-called involute tooth geometry is retained; this is the only way to ensure low-friction sliding of the tooth flanks between the gear pairs. The material we use is the thermoplastic Celron with graphite additives. These ensure low friction and wear-free operation.
If you disassemble the speedometer in advance, please note that the shaft of the speedometer needle is very sensitive. Grip the center of the speedometer needle and turn it counterclockwise. Pull lightly. Friction is everything that keeps the needle on the shaft.
