There are a variety of different water pumps for the modern Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 turbos as well as the Boxster/Cayman series. Because the seals on water pumps usually fail over the years (shaft seal or flat gasket), they are replaced at regular intervals as a precaution. Bearing damage on the WaPu is also noticeable through whining noises and is not uncommon.
