E1 gear speedometer for VDO instrument cluster odometer repair
Description:
1 of 3 gears for VDO odometers from various vehicle manufacturers
In the VDO instruments, the odometer (not the speedometer) is reduced over 2 stages, i.e. h. Each drive consists of 3 gears: E1, E2 and E3.
- The driving gear E1 is identical in all of them and has 12 teeth.
- The gear E2 (Double gear) is also identical on all of them, flat on the back (no collar) and has 48x12 teeth.
- The gear E3 (double gear) has a collar on the back and exists in 9 variants with different numbers of teeth.
For a repair, it is recommended to replace all 3 gears:
After removal, please count the teeth of the E3 gear and order the corresponding variant in the shop. We have only provided separate set offers for clearly known assignments (vehicle model to gear variant).
The following variants of the double gear E3 exist:
48x12
48x13
48x14
48x15
48x16
48x17
48x18
48x19
48x21
You will find the exact description in the respective offer title. Use the search function in the shop and pay attention to spelling without spaces.
Advantages:
Our gears are injection molded from high-quality thermoplastic: This enables very good dimensional accuracy and an involute shape of the teeth, which run particularly gently on the partner gear.
We have all gears for VDO and other instrument manufacturers in our range and can therefore deliver additional supplies or exchange incorrectly ordered gears if necessary.
Notes:
Buying a used speedometer may save you having to repair it, but it carries the risk that the gear will break in the near future. Storage times and cold temperatures in particular cause additional damage to the gears.
If you have dismantled the speedometer, we also recommend replacing the light bulbs. These noticeably lose performance over the years. They are available at every car dealership and accessories store.
If you disassemble the speedometer in advance, please note that the shaft of the speedometer needle is very sensitive. Grab the speedometer needle in the middle and turn it counterclockwise. Pull lightly. Friction is everything that keeps the needle on the shaft.
