Porsche 911 G model spare parts

Technical data

The G-series of the Porsche 911 was produced from 1973 to 1989, although strictly speaking only the 1974 model year can be called the G-series. However, generally all models of the model years 73-89 are called so.

These models differ fundamentally in their bodywork from the original Porsche model. Characteristic for the G-model is the large bumper and the front indicators on the bumper, which were positioned on the fender in the earlier model. New legislation in the U.S. requiring more bumpers and hydraulic shock absorbers to be positioned so that the impact at 8 km/h is free of damage was the reason for the new model range. For models not intended for US export, the impact absorbers were replaced by cheaper impact tubes. The G-model was nicknamed „Bellows Porsche“ because of the wrinkle-like plastic surfaces between the bumper and the body. The continuous reflector band with the Porsche inscription was also a characteristic feature of the models.

Motor and prices

Compared to the original Porsche models, the G-model differs only slightly, apart from the body and engine. The interior remained almost unchanged. Only the more comfortable seats, which were also available with seat heating, an electric sunroof and electric windows made the difference.

Since 1975 the new 911 Turbo was available. Thanks to its 3-liter turbocharged engine, it was considered the fastest German production car of its time with a top speed of 250 km/h. Three years later, in 1978, the car was equipped with a 3.3-liter engine and intercooler, which brought the 911 Turbo to 260 km/h.

Only in 1982 the Porsche 911 was introduced as a convertible, because convertibles were not allowed in the USA for safety reasons, so that the nine-niner was initially only available as a Targa and Coupé. The Porsche 911 SC Cabriolet was built 4277 times, of which over 40% were sold in the USA. The successor models of the G-series of the Porsche 911 were the 964 and 993. The price development for the 911 G is rising, which is why a buy recommendation is currently recommended.
