Porsche 356 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 356 is the first production model of which over 76,000 cars were built in a production period of 17 years (1948 to 1965). Originally planned as a roadster with a mid-engine under the prototype designation 356/1, the vehicle went into production with a modified frame and rear engine. From 1950 onwards, the Porsche 356 was produced in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The model was designed by Erwin Komenda, who had already worked on the VW-Käfer bodywork, so that the first 356 models received many serial parts from VW. These included the transmission, brakes, front and rear axle and steering.

Motor and prices

The Type 356 has been continuously improved during its production period, including the engine based on the original VW engine. The patented front crank arm axle and the rear swing axle with torsion bar springs guided on longitudinal thrust rods were considered typical features and were therefore retained. e.g;

The Porsche 356 Carrera, available in the racing versions, could convince with a completely new 1.5 liter big shaft engine with four overhead camshafts. The engine, designed by Ernst Fuhrmann, which is also known as Carrier engine had first a power of 100 HP in the Carrera, later with the 2 liter capacity version 185 HP in the type 904 GTS.

The Porsche 356 was built in several model generations throughout its production period, all of which had the same engine and drive train. The model names range from the 356 Urmodell, 356 A, 356 B to the 356 C, which represents the last generation of the 356. The models were built as Coupé, Cabriolet, Roadster and Speedster. Starting with the Speedster, the Convertible D was also offered, which was distinguished from the Speedster by a high windshield, a hood with a large rear window, crank windows and upholstered seats instead of bucket seats. Apart from the series versions, sports versions were also launched. The price development for the 356 is rising, which is why a purchase advice is currently recommended. There are also many replica versions with high prices on the market.
