There are a large number of different water pumps for the modern Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 turbos as well as the Boxster/Cayman series. Because the seals on the water pumps usually fail after the years (shaft seal ring or flat seal), they are replaced at regular intervals as a precaution. Bearing damage to the water pump is also noticeable through whining noises and is not uncommon.
