Drive shafts form the connection between the wheel hub and gearbox.

The grease can leak out and dirt entering the joint can damage it. This is why the axle boots are checked during the main inspection and are often criticized.
Defective joints are noticeable by cracking or crunching noises when cornering. It is advisable to replace worn drive shafts promptly to avoid consequential damage caused by the resulting vibrations.
